THE HISTORY OF FARM NO. 8
SINNES - NORWAY
By Per Magne Sinnes

Inger and Ola Person Sinnes lived at Sinnes - Farm no. 8.
This farm can be traced back to 1853. It was valued to 6¾ "mark" butter, and it was divided from farm no. 1, "Bakken", when Jon Torjeison Sinnes decided to sell one half of the farm to Tore Jørgenson Lyse. The farm was surveyed on 09.09.1853, but the deed of conveyance was not drawn till 05.04.1855. The purchase price was 200 "spesiedalar". By the sale´s contract of 05.03.1863 he sold Sinnes to Jakob Svenskeson Sinnes from “Stølsro” and Per Olson Sinnes from "Kvednhusbakken". The survey took place on 14.06.1876. Then they agreed that Jakob Svenskeson should get 3½ "mark" which he added to his farm. Per Olson got 3¼ "mark" and the houses belonging to the farm. This farm got, after the survey in 1853, the serial no. 3b, and in 1876 the serial no. 3b2. According to the land registry in 1889 the farm was no. 8 and a survey value of 40 "øre". After the new survey on 31.10.1936 the farm was divided in two parts. Then Ola Person separated a greater part off for farming of new land for his son, Torgeir. This farm was called "Nygård" and got a survey value of 20 "øre". This farm is placed further east of Sinnes. The son called Eilef took over the farm by the conveyance of 08.07.1942.
Olav Eilefson Sinnes took over the farm in 1974.

The first owner of the farm no. 8 was:
Tore Jørgensen Lyse, b. 13.01.1822 in Lyse in Forsand, d. 22.10.1875 at Rauåstøl (Solheim). Married to Joren Atlaksdotter Handeland, b. 07.03.1827, d. 1914.
Tore lived here from about 1852 till 1862. Then he moved back to Rauåstøl where he had lived before. Tore sold the farm at Sinnes to Jakob Svenskeson Sinnes and Per Olson Sinnes in 1863. The latter settled there after some years, and in the meantime it was rented by Tolleiv Atlakson Haugen.

Ole himself also died in a sad way. According to the church register of 15.12.1883 the cotter Ole Olson froze to death in the mountains. The occurrence is still remembered. He and many colleagues had been together on a business trip. They came from Lyse and were on their way to Sinnes. All of them were heavily loaded. At the eastern part of Heimre Dygrådalen Ole was not able to walk any further. His friends tried to help him, but in the end they had to give in and leave him. They were 10 kilometers from Sinnes. His friends went to the village for help, but when assistance came, Ole was almost dead, and he died a short time afterwards.
